Ciao! Scriverò questo post in doppia lingua, giusto per allungarlo ulteriormente. In realtà, nelle mie intenzioni iniziali questo blog doveva essere bilingue, poi la pigrizia ha vinto: per il nuovo anno ho deciso di riprovarci, anche perché ho bisogno di scrivere il più possibile in inglese. Il motto per il 2012 sarà meno pigrizia e più attività (ma ciò non significa che farò palestra o qualsiasi attività fisica che non sia pogare, ballare in seguito all’aumentare del tasso alcolemico e…va beh, ci siamo capite no? XD). Vediamo per quanto tempo sarò capace di tener fede ai miei propositi.
Hiya! I’m gonna write this list in both English and Italian because I want to, basically. Well, one of my New Year resolutions is to write more and more in English as I need to do it, so, here we are. In fact, when I started this blog I’d imagined it as bilingual, then lazyness won. But for 2012, less lazyness and more activity (this doesn’t mean I’m gonna do any kind of physical activity, except for mosh pit, occasional tipsy dancing and, em…you understand what I mean, do you?)! Let’s see for how long I’ll stand faithful to these words.
Ok, ho divagato abbastanza. Passiamo all’argomento vero e proprio del post, il mio personalissimo elenco di fatti, personaggi e cose legate al trucco che sono felice di aver scoperto o visto quest’anno…e quelli che ringrazio d’esserci lasciate alle spalle. Pronte?
Okay, enough pointless rambling. Let’s move to the main issue, my own personal list of make-up facts, people and things I’m glad to have discovered or seen last year…and the ones I’m happy to have left behind ourselves. Ready?
Marchi che ho scoperto e senza i quali ora non penso potrei vivere: tutti i marchi minerali che ho testato. Scelgo Meow Cosmetics per diverse ragioni ovvero la gamma vastissima di fondotinta e prodotti per il viso in genere, il formato gigantesco della full size di fondotinta (22-30 gr di polvere in una jar da 80 gr), le frequenti offerte, l’aiuto fornito nelle spedizioni alle italiane sfigate (…capito cosa intendo vero?), e via andare. Unico neo, i samples, scarsini, ma pazienza.
Brand I discovered and now I think I can’t live without: all mineral companies, but I choose Meow Cosmetics for many reasons as huge range of foundations and face products, giant size of their full size foundation (22-30 gr in a 80 gr jar!) frequent sales, help given with shipping and so on. Only cons, their samples are quite poor, but whatever.
Brand di cui non avrei mai creduto di innamorarmi: Estée Lauder. Dustin Hunter, è quasi del tutto colpa tua: non avresti mai dovuto mostrare le collezioni di EL dicendo tutte quelle belle cose al riguardo. Mia madre ha concluso l’opera, lodando ogni singolo giorno i prodotti di skincare targati EL.
Brand I’d never believed I would fall in love with: Estée Lauder. Dustin Hunter, it’s mainly your fault. You should have never showed EL collections saying all those good things about them. My mom did the rest of the job, by praising everyday their skincare.
La collezione che MAC poteva risparmiarsi: Ne avrei un po’ da elencare ma dirò quella che m’è sembrata più sòla, ovvero la MAC e Wonder Woman. Il packaging ci stava anche, dato il tema, i prodotti no, deludentissimi. E dire che di solito le collezioni primaverili di MAC hanno dei pezzi e dei colori interessanti…
Collection that MAC could have skipped: Among the others, I definitely say Wonder Woman. The so hated packaging was, imho, the only good thing of it. The average of products were so, meh. And MAC previously did such interesting spring collections…Such a disappoint!
Migliore collezione: Theatre of the Nameless di Illamasqua. Dalle foto promozionali, che a mio parere sono sempre le più belle ed originali di tutto l’universo cosmetico, al concept, che riprende e rivisita le origini del marchio Kryolan e quindi di Illamasqua stesso, ai prodotti. Non ne ho acquistato nessuno, ma solo perché l’estate appena passata ho deciso di fare un serio digiuno cosmetico e acquistare solo il necessario (ho ceduto solo per Aleguaras e un rossetto). Però mi piacciono quasi tutti (eccetto il gloss neutro) e trovo che siano stati pensati e messi insieme con molto criterio, cosa che non sempre avviene nelle collezioni.
Best collection: Illamasqua Theatre of the Nameless. From promo shooting, which are always the most beautiful and edgey in all make-up scenario, to the concept, taking up and re-interpreting the roots of Kryolan (and of Illamasqua itself), to products. I haven’t bought any of them, since I decided last summer to stop buying make-up I don’t actually need. However, I like a lot all of them (beside the neutral lipgloss) and I reckon they were imagined and put together very wisely, which has not to be taken for granted seeing other collections…
Negozio online da cui comprerei ogni giorno solo per ricevere i loro pacchi: Illamasqua. Chi mi conosce ha già capito perché: tutto quel nero!

Negozio preferito: MAC Pro Store di Milano-Brera, essenzialmente perché ci lavora Agostina, una delle truccatrici più gentili e capaci di interpretare (e stravolgere) i miei gusti.
Favourite shop: MAC Pro Store, Milano-Brera (mostly because one of the most lovely mua I’ve ever met, Agostina, works there).
L’esperienza-commessa peggiore: settembre, commessa di Sephora che alla mia domanda rispetto alla collezione Modern Mercury di Estée Lauder non solo non sa dirmi se alcuni pezzi siano arrivati o meno ma addirittura non sa che c’è un angolo di uno stand dedicato ad essa.
Worst experience with a shopassistant: on September at Sephora, the girl wasn’t able to tell me if Estée Lauder Modern Mercury was arrived, if some items were already sold out and she wasn’t even aware that there was a mini-stand for the collection!
Lo smalto di Chanel più WTF? Pearl Drop, collezione primaverile. Ma che davero? 25 euro per uno smalto biancastro-pannoso di cui bisogna dare almeno tre mani per arginare l’effetto nonna Abelarda, cosa che comunque si ha lo stesso? Cioè vabbé…
Chanel nail varnish that made me say WTF? Pearl Drop from the Spring collection. Why should someone spend 25 euro for a whitey varnish that you need to layer in at least three coats in order to not seem your nan? And seem your nan, anyway?
Look che mi è piaciuto di più indossare: quest’anno mi sono sbizzarrita molto con i colori, penso di non aver trascurato niente XD ma uno dei miei look preferiti è stato sicuramente ombretto giallo (Buttercupcake di Sugarpill) e eyeliner nero.
Look I most loved to wear: I varied a lot this year, from earth tones to bold colours, but one of my favourite looks was yellow eyeshadow (Sugarpill Buttercupcake) and black eyeliner.

Nei suoi look usa sempre colori accesi, spesso fluo, e li porta con una sicurezza pazzesca quando praticamente chiunque nello showbiz s’è convertito al look naturale. Ok, sembra una Barbie Peripatetica: quindi? Non vedo l’ora di vedere il Viva Glam ispirato a lei!
She wears bold looks with great confidence, when almost everyone in the showbiz has embraced natural make-up. Yeah, she seems a Slutty Barbie: so what? Can’t wait to see MAC Viva Glam inspired by her!

Per chi non la conoscesse, è una bravissima attrice britannica (e questo fatto da solo basterebbe per giustificare perché per me sia un’icona) ed è bellissima anche in This is England ’86 e ’88, dove interpreta il ruolo di una giovane donna che sta attraversando un periodo molto difficile della sua vita, quindi anche il suo aspetto è tutto tranne che sano e curato. La amo. E anche Illamasqua la ama.
She’s an amazing British (and that would be enough for me to love her) actress and she could look absolutely gorgeous even in This is England ’86 and ’88, where she portrays a young woman who’s going through a hard time and who’s really poorly. I bloody love her. And also Illamasqua does.
Trend che anche no: il proliferare delle palette di toni neutrali. Ci siamo trascinati dal 2010 la Naked-mania con la gente che è tipo impazzita per trovarla e siamo arrivati a dicembre con l’annuncio della Naked 2. In mezzo ci sono state versioni più o meno low cost, più o meno eco-bio, più o meno valide… E la cosa non pare fermarsi vista la preview della collezione primaverile di Too Faced. Per carità, va bene i colori naturali però questo denota un atteggiamento da parte delle case cosmetiche che non mi piace affatto.
Trend “NO, PLEASE, NO!”: the popping up of all this neutral palettes. We carried on with the Naked-mania that started in 2010 (people went crazy to find it) and we ended the year with the launch of Naked 2. In between these two Urban Decay palettes, we saw loads of neutral palettes: low and high cost, organic and not, awesome and awkward… And it seems to be a neverending story: go and see the new Too Faced spring collection. Beware: there’s nothing wrong in natural colours, but I think cosmetic companies are seriously resting on the laurels and this is not good.
Tip of the year: come riconoscere se un pennello è valido, by Rae Morris. Grazie Rae, se trovo qualcuno che mi compra un rene mi compro anche il tuo set di pennelli.

Tecnica ottima e look meravigliosi, ma quel che mi piace più di tutto di Regina è che spiega davvero passo dopo passo che cosa sta facendo e soprattutto perché. So che non otterrò mai risultati puliti e precisi come i suoi, ma mi ha fatto venir voglia di provare a imparare la pencil technique ed, inoltre, a lavorare di più sulla forma del mio occhio.

Great technique and stunning looks, but what I love most of her is that she seriously explains step-by-step what she’s doing and, most important, why. I know I won’t never obtain polished looks as hers, but she made me want to try to learn the pencil technique and work more on my eye shape. Italian channel, I’m sorry for foreigners.

Sapevamo già che non tutti i modelli sono solo belli belli in modo assurdo. Ma che dire di una modella che mostra alla gente come ricreare il glamour delle passerelle e delle copertine patinate con pochi gesti? Quel che amo di Ruth Crilly è che pur vivendo e lavorando nel mondo della moda mostra un approccio genuino e coi piedi per terra sia nel suo blog che nel suo canale. Oltre a ciò, recensisce caterve di prodotti cosmetici, non solo trucchi ma anche per la cura della pelle, sia di fascia di prezzo alta che economici: fra tutti questi una persona può decisamente trovare qualcosa di suo interesse. Da ultimo, scrive sempre nell’infobox i prezzi e, in caso di prodotti meno noti, dove acquistarli in UK. Ah, sì, è inglese… Dovevo specificarlo subito dite? XD

We already knew that not all the models are only really really ridiculously good looking. But what about a model that shows people how to recreate the glamour of catwalk and lushious magazines covers in few strokes? What I love of Ruth Crilly is that she lives and works in the fashion industry, but she shows a totally down to earth approach in her blog and her channel. In add to this, she reviews tons of make-up products, but also skincare, both high end and high street: one could definitely find something to try among them. Last but not least, she always writes the prices and, in case of less known products, where to buy in the UK. Oh, yeah, she’s English… Should I have told you from the start? XD

Do I have to say anything? I freakin’ LOVE it. 
You know my feelings about them from my review: highly pigmented, easy to blend, they’re probably the best bright coloured eyeshadow I ever tried. And yes, they’ve got a lovely packaging, and they are cruelty free, which makes them much cooler!
I know, nothing new, but its effectiveness never cease to surprise me. Great in summer, but also all the times I had to go to concerts and I want that everything stays in place. Essential in my kit!
My constantly dry lips say hurrah to these lip balms, and also animals. Cruelty-free and, this applies to the Helan one, made by organic ingredients. And they do properly their job, no cheat! I like both, but the Helan one has an awesome smell of honey which drives me crazy! 
This is a mascara which you love or which you hate. Personally, I love it, and I’m at the second tube right now! It doesn’t provoke me allergy, as many cheaper or even more acclaimed mascaras do. I found the way of obtaining the perfect lenghtening, volume and curvation without glueing lashes together, and even if my lashes are quite thin, I feel the need of putting fake lashes only when I do super-dramatic looks.
